Westbound travelers commonly leave I-90 at Sundance; eastbound travelers commonly use Moorcroft. Both routes meet Wyoming 24 south of the monument.
Approaching from Gillette or the west
Use the Moorcroft exit identified by the National Park Service, then follow US 14 north. This route suits travelers continuing from the Bighorn Mountains, Sheridan or western Wyoming.
Moorcroft is the natural place for fuel, food and the West Texas Trail Museum before leaving I-90.
Approaching from Spearfish or the east
Exit at Sundance and follow US 14 toward Wyoming 24. This route fits most travelers coming from Rapid City, Deadwood, Spearfish or the eastern Black Hills.
Sundance provides lodging, food and the Crook County Museum, making it a strong overnight before an early park visit.
The final approach
US 14 and Wyoming 24 meet at Devils Tower Junction, about six miles south of the monument. Wyoming 110 provides the final entrance road.
The National Park Service cautions that some GPS devices may route poorly. Follow official highway signs and keep an offline map available.
Make a loop when time allows
Enter through Sundance and leave through Hulett and Aladdin if continuing toward Belle Fourche. Enter through Moorcroft and leave through Sundance if heading east on I-90.
A loop adds variety but also reduces service options. Check fuel and daylight before choosing the rural exit.
Before you drive
Check current park alerts, highway conditions, weather and seasonal business hours. Download the route before leaving reliable service.
