Keyhole State Park sits between Moorcroft and Sundance and is reached from I-90. It offers boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, birding and reservable camping.
Why add Keyhole
Devils Tower is the regional landmark; Keyhole is where a trip can spread out. The reservoir works especially well for families, anglers, boaters and campers who want an activity that is not another drive or museum.
Treat it as a half-day or overnight addition rather than a quick pullout. Shoreline access and individual campgrounds are distributed around the park.
Camping and cabins
Wyoming State Parks lists ten campgrounds, all reservation-only during the main season. Hookups are limited to specific areas, and cabins or the treehouse require advance reservations.
Water systems, docks and other amenities are seasonal and weather-dependent. Read the details for the exact site before booking.
Boating and fishing
The reservoir supports boating, paddling, water skiing and fishing. A privately operated marina offers seasonal services, but inventory and operating dates should be confirmed directly.
Check Wyoming boating and fishing regulations, carry required safety equipment and plan for wind. Large open water can change quickly.
Build it into the route
Keyhole makes the most sense with Moorcroft, Pine Haven or an I-90 overnight. From there, devote a separate morning or afternoon to Devils Tower rather than trying to compress both destinations.
Travelers crossing Wyoming can use Keyhole to turn one hotel night into a campsite or cabin stay.
