Keyhole Reservoir is the region’s primary developed fishing destination, with camping, boating and marina services. Forest ponds and streams require more current, location-specific research.
Keyhole Reservoir
Keyhole State Park offers the clearest fishing addition to a Devils Tower itinerary. The large reservoir supports shore and boat access, multiple campgrounds and seasonal marina services.
Wind, water level and seasonal operations all affect the day. Check current conditions and choose a campground or launch area before arriving.
Black Hills National Forest waters
The Bearlodge Ranger District includes smaller fishing opportunities, but access and conditions vary. Use current Forest Service maps and Wyoming Game and Fish information rather than relying on a general travel article.
Some roads may be rough or seasonal, and private land is interspersed around the region. Confirm public access.
Licenses and regulations
Wyoming fishing licenses and current regulations apply. Species limits, seasons, bait rules and water-specific restrictions can change.
Purchase the appropriate license and download the current regulations before leaving reliable service. Clean, drain and dry boats and equipment to reduce the spread of aquatic invasive species.
Turn it into an overnight
Fishing fits best when Keyhole, Moorcroft or Pine Haven becomes the overnight base. Visit Devils Tower on a separate morning, then give the reservoir the remainder of the day.
A rushed hour at the shoreline rarely justifies hauling tackle or a boat. Build enough time for weather and setup.
